Trucks Deliver a Cleaner Tomorrow
Delivering Economic Value: Trucking is the driving force behind the nation's economy moving 11 billion tons of freight each year. Trucks deliver 100 percent of all consumer products and 70 percent of all freight tonnage; 80 percent of U.S. communities receive their goods exclusively by truck.
Delivering Environmental Improvements: New engines, highly efficient particulate filters, ultra-low sulfur diesel oil, and new management techniques have reduced the industry's environmental impact significantly.
Lowering Our Carbon Footprint: Thanks to ATA's cooperation with the government and 37,000 affiliates to develop and encourage use of its sustainability recommendations, the program will reduce fuel consumption by 86 billion gallons and CO2 emissions from all vehicles by 900 million tons in the next 10 years, ATA estimates.
-
Climate Change:
The industry’s new sustainability program will reduce CO2 emissions by an estimated 900 million tons over the next ten years.
-
Efficiency:
Becoming more efficient in the use of fuel will help the industry reduce fuel consumption and cut emissions.
-
SmartwaySM:
SmartWaySM is a public-private partnership to increase energy efficiency and achieve reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
-
Clean Engines:
Cleaner engines, combined with other technological advances, will deliver greater benefits to the industry and the environment.
-
Clean Fuels:
The trucking industry supports clean fuels: ninety-four percent of the fuel trucks burn today is ultra-low sulfur.
